GMC Utilities Group marked its 45th anniversary this month, highlighting a span of projects that have shaped Ireland’s utility and infrastructure sector.

Today the group consists of GMC Civil and Mechanical Engineering Ltd, Gerry McCloskey (Irl) Ltd, Gas Management Resources Limited and Meter Technology Ireland Ltd. Its headquarters sit in a custom‑built complex at Millennium Business Park, Ballycoolin, featuring roughly 13,500 sq ft of office space, a 7,500 sq ft workshop and 43,500 sq ft of storage.
CEO Shane McCloskey leads a team that earned OHSAS 18001:2007 certification—one of the first Irish firms to do so—alongside ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 standards. The integrated management system covers quality, health‑and‑safety and environmental performance, a framework the organization says underpins every contract.

Key projects demonstrate a national footprint.
Recent undertakings illustrate the breadth of the group’s activities. In partnership with Uisce Éireann, GMC is delivering a national Leakage Reduction Programme that has saved more than 780,000 litres of water per day on the Cooley Peninsula, a volume comparable to the daily consumption of over 5,800 residents.
Other notable works include a wastewater upgrade in Swords, County Dublin, aimed at supporting housing growth, and the installation of a High‑Power Fast‑Charging Hub at Frascati Shopping Centre in Blackrock. That hub adds to Ireland’s expanding electric‑vehicle charging network.
The firm has also begun construction on the Liffey Valley to Dublin City Centre Core Bus Corridor, a project commissioned by the National Transport Authority. The initiative is intended to improve public‑transport capacity while reducing congestion in the capital.
In the power sector, GMC secured the North Connacht 110 kV high‑voltage cable contract, extending its capability in high‑voltage infrastructure. Its client list reads like a roster of national utilities, including Bord Gáis, the Central Bank, Dublin Airport Authority, ESB and Northern Ireland Electricity.

Across the United Kingdom, the group continues to deliver water‑network rehabilitation, railway‑station platform extensions and broadband‑network projects, showing a cross‑border reach that complements its Irish base.
